Vice President Jejomar C. Binay on Tuesday urged the cooperation of informal settlers residing in danger zones in efforts to relocate them to safer areas.
"Buhay na ang nakataya diyan eh," Binay replied after a reporter solicited his reaction on the sentiments of urban poor families on the resettlement issue.
"Ilan pa ang dapat mamatay para tayo ay kumilos? Hindi naman po likhang-isip iyan, hindi pantasya iyan."
The Vice President was in Laguna to lead continued relief operations conducted by the Office of the Vice President. He personally handed out relief goods to people affected by flood in Binan, Cabuyao, Sta. Rosa, Sta. Cruz, Bay, Pila, Victoria. A team was also sent to distribute goods at Pakil, Paete, and Pangil. A total of
5,186 families received relief goods.
He also visited the Pag-IBIG branch in Calamba to oversee the release of calamity loan checks to affected members. Binay last week ordered the opening of Pag-IBIG branches during the declared two-day holiday commemorating the Eid ul-Fitr and Ninoy Aquino's death anniversary.
On Monday, Binay also led relief efforts for 6,500 families in various local government units in Pampanga. He likewise visited the Pag-Ibig Fund Regional Office in San Fernando City to award calamity loan checks to recipients and assess the processing of calamity loans.
