Around 300 informal settler families (ISFs) in San Juan will soon have their own homes, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay said Monday.

            Six 5-storey low rise buildings (LRB) with a total of 348 units will be built in Barangay St. Joseph, San Juan to house ISFs living along the city’s waterways and danger areas.

            “This in-city relocation is the government’s response to your wish to have homes that are near your workplaces and your children’s schools,” Binay said during the groundbreaking of the LRB.

            “This project also intends to provide you with a haven from fires, floods and other calamities,” he added.

            Each unit in the LRB will have a floor area of 24 sq. meters with MERALCO and Manila Water as service providers.

            The LRBs will be equipped with a fire automatic sprinkler system and a sewage treatment plan. Parking lots will also be made available to unit occupants.

            Like other government relocation and resettlement sites, the San Juan LRBs will also have a chapel, a multi-purpose center and a day care center.

            The Vice President reminded the beneficiaries to pay their monthly dues on time.

            “The success of our housing programs largely depends on your cooperation. If you fulfill your duties faithfully, we will be able to help more Filipino families realize their dream of having their own homes,” the Vice President said.

            The LRBs form part of the in-city relocation efforts of the San Juan local government in partnership with the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the National Housing Authority.

            As HUDCC chair, Binay led the groundbreaking ceremony together with NHA General Manager Atty. Chito Cruz, San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez, San Juan Representative Ronaldo Zamora, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito.
